EventHorizon - Support
Downloading Category Icons
EventHorizon can download images so that they can be used as category icons. This allows you to personalize your collection of categories, for example you might replace the built-in Motoring icon with your car's badge, or replace the Work icon with your company's logo.
There are several steps to downloading an image into EventHorizon:
- The image must be viewable in a web browser, you will need the URL for that image in order for EventHorizon to find it. As an example, let's say the URL which would display the image in a web browser is
http://www.somehost.com/image.png - The image must be in png, jpg or gif format.
- Send yourself an HTML email containing the URL to the image, but replace the
http://witheventhorizon://, so the example above would give us:eventhorizon://www.somehost.com/image.png - Open the email on your device and tap on the link. EventHorizon should launch and download the image.
If you have trouble sending an HTML email with the link in it, try creating a webpage which contains the same URL, and then visit that webpage in Safari on your device, then tap on the link to launch EventHorizon.
Backing Up Your Data
At the bottom of the Settings area you will find an option Backup By Email which will let you email your EventHorizon data in XML format, for backup purposes. It is recommended to backup your data before installing any EventHorizon updates and also on a regular basis.
Restoring From a Backup
WARNING: Restoring data from a backup file will completely replace all EventHorizon data with the contents of the backup. Your address book data will not be affected, only the events that have been entered directly into EventHorizon will be replaced.
There are several steps to restoring from a previously exported backup:
- If your data was exported from EventHorizon version 1.2.0 or later, it will have been sent as an XML file attachment. This XML file must be saved outside of your mail application.
If your data was exported from an EventHorizon version before 1.2.0, you must save the exported XML data found in the email body into a file with a .xml extension, for example "backup.xml".
It is important that you save only the XML content from the body of the email. The beginning and end of your backup file should look like the following:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<EventHorizon version="1">
...your data here...
</EventHorizon>
- The backup file must be viewable in a web browser, you will need the URL for that file in order for EventHorizon to find it. As an example, let's say the URL which would display the XML file in a web browser is
http://www.somehost.com/backup.xml - Send yourself an HTML email containing the URL to the file, but replace the
http://witheventhorizon://and append?action=restore&format=eventhorizon, so the example above would give us:eventhorizon://www.somehost.com/backup.xml?action=restore&format=eventhorizon - Open the email on your device and tap on the link. EventHorizon should launch and download the file.
If you have trouble sending an HTML email with the link in it, try creating a webpage which contains the same URL, and then visit that webpage in Safari on your device, then tap on the link to launch EventHorizon.
Finally, we realise this restore solution is less than ideal and we are aiming to replace this method in future versions, however it does work and is in addition to the backup performed for you by iTunes. Anyone experiencing problems restoring from their XML backup file should use the feedback form to contact us and then we can help you.
