AppReviews is now open-source

I have just open-sourced an iPhone app called AppReviews, which lets iPhone developers read their app reviews & ratings from all the App Stores around the world.

You can find it at github http://github.com/gambcl/AppReviews

and also at http://www.perculasoft.com/appreviews

If you want to try it out you can grab the source and build it yourself, you will require the iPhone SDK from Apple.

I hope it is useful to some of you.

Support for iPhone OS 3.0

Apple is due to release iPhone OS 3.0 on 17th June 2009. Due to the large number of improvements and new features in this release, all Percula Software titles will require OS 3.0 for all future updates.

Updated versions of SleepOver and EventHorizon for OS 3.0 have already been submitted to Apple and are awaiting approval before they are available to download from the App Store.

Issues with SleepOver and Apple’s 2.2 firmware

Several people have reported that Apple’s new 2.2 firmware for the iPhone and iPod touch has caused the numeric keypad that SleepOver uses for entering numeric digits into the MAC address fields to stop working. More specifically, digits 1 to 9 work properly, but trying to enter a 0 results in a + character being returned, which is ignored by SleepOver because it is not a valid character for a MAC address.

I have fixed this issue in SleepOver 1.1.2 by using a different keyboard type for the MAC address fields. This update is with Apple for approval, so hopefully it should appear in the App Store soon.

See the Release Notes page for full details of SleepOver 1.1.2.

SleepOver 1.1.1 is on its way

Of course as soon as 1.1.0 was available I found an issue where hosts created in version 1.0.0 could not be used in the new version. The workaround is to edit the hosts and save a hostname for each required network profile (even saving an empty hostname should fix it). Users of version 1.0.0 should probably wait for 1.1.1 which fixes the problem and which has just been uploaded to Apple. It has to go through their review process before it appears on the App Store, but you should see it soon.

The new release includes the following changes:

  • [Fix] Users updating from version 1.0.0 could not use existing hosts.
  • [New] Added system preference to toggle sound on/off.
  • [New] Allow saving result of hostname lookup into IP address field.
  • [Change] Clear MAC and IP fields when tapping to edit.
  • [Change] Use URL keyboard for editing hostnames.

SleepOver 1.1.0 is on its way

I finally finished and uploaded SleepOver 1.1.0 to Apple. It has to go through their review process before it appears on the App Store, but you should see it soon.

I have some updates to the website to put out, but I’m waiting for SleepOver 1.1.0 to go live first.

The new release includes the following changes:

  • [New] Support for hostnames.
  • [New] User can now delete a host from its editing view.
  • [New] Now with added whoosh.
  • [Change] Replaced sliders with keypads for faster input.
  • [Change] Removed unnecessary fields from LAN/WAN profiles.
  • [Change] Removed unnecessary message after successfully sending magic packet.

This should make SleepOver more useful to all the Dynamic DNS users out there, as well as speed up entering host details. Enjoy.
