AppReviews - Frequently Asked Questions
General
Why do I have to enter the application identifier instead of the application name?
Application names are not guaranteed to be unique whereas an application identifier is, which means that AppReviews does not have to search the App Store for possible matches if an identifier is used. Note: We hope to add searching by application name in a future free update.
How do I find the application identifier?
If you are an iPhone or iPod touch developer, you can find the identifier for your application in your sales reports from Apple (in the column Apple Identifier). If you are not a developer or want to find the identifier for someone else's application you can find the application in the iTunes App Store (using the desktop version of iTunes, not the version on the device) and then right-click on the application's icon and select "Copy iTunes Store URL", then paste this URL into any text editor and locate the id field.
What is the default App Store for an application?
AppReviews uses the application identifier you have entered and its default App Store to test if the identifier is valid and also to fetch the application's name and company. Some developers might have localized their application's name for different languages in different countries, so choosing a default App Store for that application allows you to choose which language your application name will appear in. The only requirement is that the default App Store for an application must be a country in which that application is available.
Why can I only see 25 reviews when I know there are more for my app?
AppReviews can currently only display the first 25 reviews from a particular store. Note: We hope to add support for fetching further pages of reviews in a future free update.
Why does it take so long to download reviews?
AppReviews has to request the reviews for each combination of application and country individually. If you have all the countries enabled this can be a lot of requests. You can disable countries that you are not interested in using the main Settings application, which will reduce the number of requests required in future downloads.
Why do some stores turn pink when downloading reviews?
Sometimes AppReviews does not receive a response when it requests to download reviews for a given country. Check your network connection and try again later.
How do I change the ordering of the reviews?
The ordering for reviews can be changed using the main Settings application (most helpful, most recent, most favorable, most critical) however it is important to note that this does not change the ordering of reviews that have already been downloaded. This ordering preference is instead used when sending a download request to the App Store, informing the App Store which selection of reviews should be sent to your device.
Why are the average ratings sometimes incorrect for the given reviews?
Sometimes you might notice that a country's average rating for an application does not actually equal the true average of all its reviews for the application. In this respect AppReviews simply reports exactly what Apple returns.
